Pollinator Palace DIY

The garden world depends on our pollinators for fruit, flowers and species continuation.  Most of us think of bees as the pollinators, but in reality many types of bugs help get the job done.  In fact some plants depend solely on flies - their not-so-great smell wont attract others.  Bees, butterflies, flies, wasps, moths, flying beetles, bats, hummingbirds and ants all pollinate our fruits, vegetables, trees and more.  To encourage such pollinators in your garden you can build a pleasant palace. All you need is:

  • framed structure (bird house, hollow gourd, deep picture frame, ceramic pot, etc...)

  • cut twigs, corrugated cardboard, pine cones, bark pieces and dried plant stems (ex: coneflower, peony, bamboo)

  • tools for hanging your structure (wire, nails, hammer)

Now that it's all put together place it in a safe sunny location, not easily messed with by little hands or paws and watch the pollinators populate their new palace.
